'Cats reach Old Spice final vs. N.C. State

Tonight, Villanova will take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the Old Spice Classic championship in Orlando, Fla.

The game will air live nationwide on ESPN2 at 6:30.

The match-up vs. N.C. State is an interesting one, as the Wolfpack are very talented down low, while Villanova looks to have by far the better backcourt.

GreyCat at Villanova By The Numbers pens his usual preview, and Chris at I Bleed Blue and White takes stock of his pre-game thoughts.

A win for the Wildcats tonight gives them another solid out-of-conference win for their NCAA resume. Taking home the Old Spice championship would almost certainly vault Villanova into the top 15 in both major polls, and likely even higher given some of the high profile losses this week.

If you'd like to take part in the official LetsGoNova.com prognostication contest, post your prediction for the game's final score in the comments section below. Your potential prize: your name in bold on this very Web site.

That was one of the worst calls I have ever seen.

Cunningham's hands were straight up in the air, and didn't touch the shooter.

You nova fans are trippin. All of your attempts at guessing the score were grossly incorrect. The final score favored the Pack but that is about all that favored them. Nova got so many calls, it was ridiculous, but when it comes down to it, the better team overcame those arbitrary obstacles. Yeah, admittedly that was a bad call to end the game but w/o those horrendous calls earlier in the game, it wouldn't have been a game that late. As for what your rank is going to be after this game, it won't be #10 or #11 as some of your prognosticators predicted (though I do appreciate the respect that your esteemed bloggers gave to an illusory victory over an ACC team), it will more than likely be grouped into that "others receiving votes," gray area. It's all good though. You play in a very tough conference and you guys will probably be ranked again when it is all said and done. Your defense was very impressive. Another thing that you should take solace in is that realistically, NC State is a top #15 team and it came down to the wire. This game made me check my calendar to make sure that it wasn't March Madness (something the Wolfpack has enjoyed the last 5 of 6 years as opposed to Nova's 3 of 6). Undoubtedly, this game helped prepare both teams for the meaningful games that are yet to come.
Now, should the voters look at what a blown call that last play was? Some of them probably will. But should they look at all the previous blown calls that went in favor of Nova? Yeah, but they won't because like everyone else, they only see what ESPN wants us to see. There is no way the voters can watch every D1 game and weigh each performance relative to one another. Anyway, being close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. For all the joy that many of you took in the bad calls that occurred in the early part of the game, karma gave all parties got what they deserved: A VILLANOVA LOSS AND A WOLFPACK VICTORY!

Haha despite what Michael says, fans of other teams may read and comment here... though Anonymous was a little harsh in his rant.

Sorry guys, I was drunk after watching the game with some friends the other night when I left that post. It was inappropriate and I hope that my words don't negatively affect the way you all look at wolfpack fans as a whole. I grew up a St. Johns fan so I guess I have a natural disposition to dislike Nova and it was stirred up after watching that game. Having said that, I prefer nova over Gtown, Uconn, Syracuse and most other Big East teams so good luck this year, maybe we will see each other in March.
