All-American Tyreke faces #1 St. Anthony tonight

Villanova recruit Tyreke Evans, the top senior in the country, was named a McDonald's All-American on Tuesday, and will play the biggest game of his career tonight live on ESPN against nationwide #1 St. Anthony.

It appears to be a pretty big week for Tyreke.

Evans, who eliminated Louisville from this list of his potential college destinations, is now down to Memphis, Villanova, Texas, Connecticut, and Seton Hall. Though he claims that no school is a favorite, smart money has him signing with Memphis sometime after his recruiting trip there Friday.

Villanova remains in the hunt, and many consider the Main Line clearly in Tyreke's top two options.

Evans and his American Christian team travel to Jersey City, N.J. for St. Anthony, the undisputed top team in high school, for the 9 p.m. game. Five more big-time recruits will also play tonight, including St. Anthony guard Dom Cheek, another top priority for Jay Wright's recruiting efforts.

The New York Times runs a long story today about Evans's childhood and background.

He announced it and all the Lville people are talking about it plus Pitino said I am no longer recruiting for 08...And maybe the reason for Grant not playing is he is considering transfering due to some High Profile Recruit by the name of Tyreke Evans making a silent verbal or it looks like Nova is the desination in Wright's eyes.O_o

I watched the game last night, and from what I saw I don't think Tyrere is a "one and done" player.

He appears to have lots of work to do before he dominates in the BIG EAST, much less makes an NBA team.... He has tons of natural ability, but he is a diamond very much in the rough. What's with that crazy falling over backwards jump shot?

Corey Stokes, in spite of his slow but accelerating start, was much better prepared to make the step up in competition from High School.

I think Tyreke is making a big mistake if he doesn't come to Villanova to work with the best developers of Guards in the country... Jay and his staff.

Then again, my opinion and a couple of bucks will get you a beer!

He has no help on that team. I have seen Tyreke play 10x better then that with his AAU team. I'd take him and start him ASAP. Starting five would be Fish, Scottie, Tyreke, Cunningham, Pena/Anderson/Drummond. Also i love Dom Cheek.

Cheek really did impress in the first half, but I think it was Evans that shut him down in the second half.

I saw all but the last quarter, who won?! I thought tyreke was impressive but a little bit of a ball hog, i guess that can be expected in high school though. It's not like any of his other teammates can shoot like he can, which is pretty good aside from that bad habit of falling back.

I just hope he doesn't go to Memphis, because in Memphis he would be playing mediocre teams with a tough ooc game here or there...plus at Nova he can play against Samardo and Monroe argubly making three teams have all three of the top recruits in highschool...
