Taylor King commits to Villanova

King, a 6'7" forward from Duke, will sit out one year before joining the Wildcats for the 2009-2010 season. King had been previously recruited by the Wildcats in high school, where he was a McDonald's All American.
King played in all 34 games for Duke this year before deciding to explore transfer options. King had scheduled visits to USC and Gonzaga, but canceled those appointments after accepting a scholarship offer from Jay Wright this weekend.
The sharpshooting King will add a perimeter threat to Villanova's attack.

I don't know much about this guy, but I hear hes basically a 3-pt machine. Is that all he does? Or can he play the 3-4 as well?

Wooo!! Regardless, if a guy was getting some pt at Duke he is pretty talented! It's a good day for us!
he can shoot, not as good as stokes though. i think the biggest issue with him is defense (as is with many young players). we have a year to prep him for villanova basketball!!
why the hell did we trade malcolm for this guy? we dont need another one of him. we should have picked up a true center.
Center = Championship
No Center = No Championship
Just like 05-06
I am not smart enough to go to Villanova.
Bogs hazzard, your comment is incorrect on both fronts; we do need King, we do not need malcolm grant. King will be coming in '09, when cunningham, clark, and anderson will be gone, so there is a NEED for a small / power forward. Conversely, we have corey fischer and will have waayns in '09, so we do not NEED malcolm grant. And we will still have room for a Center so that's pretty irrelevant.

You know, evaluating this as a "trade" for Grant is beyond silly, but if you want to play that game, I think it would be considered a great trade for Nova, mainly because King fits Nova's needs better. But before we get to the needs issue, let's talk briefly about talent. Grant's defenders seem to take it as a given that he has a talent edge. I'm not so sure. Which would you pick:? High school all-American who does this as a freshman:
min pts reb ast % 3P%
9.7 5.5 2.0 0.4 .414 .377
Or non- HS all-American who does this:
min pts reb ast % 3P%
12.7 5.6 0.8 1.4 .390 .466
It's pretty close. Obviously Grant has the added advantage of a couple of insanely good games, but I think that King may end up being the better player.
But even if he is not, it's a good "deal" for Nova. While it's true that King isn't the true big man that Nova needs, he is a 6'6" Forward as opposed to a 6'0" PG, and Nova has more need for the former than for the latter at this point.
Let's break it down year by year:
'08-'09 - obviously having King won't help here, and losing Grant hurts a little. But even if Nova doesn't get Evans, they have Reynolds/Fisher/Stokes/Redding at guard, and Anderson as a swing man. That's a good enough guard line up for a deep tournament run.
'09-'10 - the guard situation could even be more crowded, especially if Reynolds stays. But the front line would have been mighty thin without King, with only Drummond and Pena and any freshmen front court players.
Anything beyond '09-'10 is pure speculation, but one might note that, assuming both are 4 year players, that King will still be here in '11-'12, whereas Grant would have been gone.
Waayns will be way better then Redding.
