Sutton selects 'Nova

Today is the final day of the late signing period, and it looks like Villanova will pick up a recruit in the class of 2008 after all.

Maurice Sutton, a 6-10 center from Maryland, is expected to announce his choice to attend Villanova at a press conference today, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

According to the PDN, Sutton was also considering a scholarship offer from Tom Crean of Indiana before deciding on Villanova.

Sutton sang Villanova's praises to Yahoo Sports' Justin Young this weekend:

Villanova is a great fit for me. They have all five guys coming back next year but I really like Villanova. Coach Wright, he really took me under his wing. I love coach Wright. I see myself in their offense and defense, too

There is speculation that Sutton may redshirt his freshman year at Villanova to add muscle to his 6'10'' frame. Right now, Sutton looks to be more of a defensive presence than an offensive weapon.

sick! that's great, and itd be pretty good if he'd redshirt next year. We don't really need him with dant, wayne, and shane and itll give him time to get better. this is good news!

my only fear is that he has pretty much the same specs as andrew ott coming in, and obviously he fizzled out.

Tall and ambulatory is better than, well, "not tall" for a team lacking in height...

Next up for Villanova could be Dalton Pepper, Isaiah Armwood, Kenny Boynton are all High end recruits interested in Villanova. It also looks like Maalik Wayns has been moved up to a 5 star Recruit and is the #4PG scout inc, and #2PG ESPN.. Looks like another McDonalds All-American heading to Villanova for 2009.. Jay Wright could have a top-5 class coming to the main line for 2009.

okay anon, stop pestering pete for liking malcolm grant. But yeah, this is a great recruit and if he redshirts he could be real good. I think (and hope) we'll have a lot of good recruits in the class of 09, but we will have lost our 3spectacular seniors (plus tchuisi..) and who knows what will happen to scottie after next season.

if only maalik and a few of the other high recruits couldve just been a bit older, we'd be unstoppable contenders for the championship next year! :/

Did anyone read Jay's interview on VUSports? He did not sound too enthusiastic on Casiem's effort in rehab. Hopefully he is sticking to it and can make an impact like he did at the beginning of last season.

Has anyone heard anymore about this?
