Live blog of St. Joe's 2nd half

Well, I didn't expect this one to be a game, but St. Joe's is up at the half. This is pretty much a must-win for 'Nova, because with a loss here the Wildcats' OOC record will be atrocious come Tourney time.

If anyone's around I will be live bloggin'.

So intense it became a bash Jay Wright fest.

Per the usual from this blog. Stop dancing around the fact you want this man fired.

Not sure what you expect him to do with the program, apparantely all the success we've enjoyed is not enough for you.

That was a painful live blog to read. Disgraceful comments.

I got a noise complaint tonight.

I never said I wanted Jay Wright fired. I will, however, point out what I feel are mistakes he makes. Like his failure to develop Fisher, a top talent. Like his playing Clark over Stokes inexplicably. Like the team waiting 12 seconds to foul down by 1 with 28 seconds left.

It is OK to question a leader. Even if you like the leader.

I will also be questioning Obama!

Jay Wright is the man... He is not immune to criticism, but he obviously has earned some leeway to say the least.. Some things that bug me are that there is a stagnant feel to our offense a lot (god forbid we ever get a good shot as the clock is winding down) and some of his substitutions drive me crazy, but it is what it is..

But yo, what's good with Dom Cheek???

While you never called for him to be fired, you killed him the entire time.

1. "Worst coach team you've ever seen"
2. "Worst coach in America"
3. Too much other hyperbole to list that is Anti everything Jay Wright, save for his ability to recruit

Give it a break! They got the W with a stale, tired, lackluster performance. We had a good deal of signature wins last year, along with a good deal of crappy performances. That was with a very young team. The best is yet to come for Nova this year, stop being such a pessimist. You don't need to agree with everything Jay Wright does, but he clearly is a better basketball mind than you or I.

Who was calling him the worst coach in America?

The Jay Wright hatred has gone from comical to concerning with you Pete. I will fear for Jays life if you are ever around him in Public. Did you say Jay can't develop talent? How about Lowery? How about Ray? How about Foye? How about Cunningham? How about Nardi? How about Scottie? The list is endless really. Sometimes a player just isn't capable of performing at a high level in college. The only one he really failed with was Fraser, but Fraser was a china doll.

Rich -- Scottie has regressed. (Even ESPN ran a front page piece mentioning Scottie's regression today!) Fisher and Stokes have not developed. Lowry was a once-in-a-lifetime talent who was ready from day 1. I agree that Ray and Foye developed very well. Nardi regressed BIG TIME his senior year. Cunningham has always been good, and has gotten slightly better.

Then there are the 5 players who became divorced from Jay's Villanova Family, for whatever reasons.

All in all I don't think it's an outstanding track record.

I think Jay is an excellent recruiter and good with PR and publicity. Those are his strengths. I think his weaknesses would be in-game management and player development. Redshirting Sutton with 5 great players coming in next year, while we need depth now? Dubious.

Rich -- By the way, your comment that you'd "fear for Jay's life" if we were ever nearby is totally and completely out of line and actually libelous. I am going to assume you were joking because that is an absurd, obscene thing to imply, that someone who criticizes a coach's decision in a basketball game is a physical threat to him. Shame on you.

Do you even know why Nardi was struggling so much? He had mono and a sprained ankle that he was playing through all year long. Jay did a terrific job developing Nardi. Can't forget about Sumpter either.

Yes it was a joke by the way. I assume your jokes about Wright being one of the worst coaches in America was a joke as well. Shame on you for saying that. He's done a boatload for this program during his tenure. Heck he outcoached the guy they have up there at UNC.

My exact quote was "jay must be the worst coach in America to not tell his team to foul if they miss" -- I didn't exactly say he WAS the worst coach in America.

Maybe he told them and they just ignored him. Either way, bad coaching to let 12 seconds go off before you foul.

Well, St. Joe's came to play last night. A credit to Martelli and his team.

And we were a little slow mentally and physically in the 1st half. Probably because of a very physical Texas game that started late and finished late on Tuesday.

BUT, I give credit to our coach and his staff for "Wrighting" the ship in the second half.

The team definitely took care of business in the second half when it counted.

I still don't understand why Clark gets as much playing time as he does. He is consistently a step behind the player he is defending and now several times this year has been rejected by the rim on a relatively open dunk.

I still don't understand the virtual absence of Stokes in the second half

I would recommend to everyone here that they visit vuhoops.com from here on out and ignore this site. Pete sucks and makes fucktarded statements on the regular (like Corey Fisher has not developed a jump shot because Jay has not given him one yet...check the St. Joes blog, he actually says this).

Pete is miserable and has managed to alienate myself and 5 Nova friends as regular visitors this year. This site as become a poor representation of Villanova FANS, which I emphasize because you often mention journalist integrity as reason to harshly criticize. The thing is, it is a Nova fan blog correct? Find the joy in the team you fuck. Get excited because they beat St. Joes. Remember when Duke almost lost to URI...I bet Duke fans were not blogging that Coach K was one of the worst coaches in basketball. This Nova team is not an elite team because the talent is not elite. It just isn't. Not a single player out there is NBA ready nor do I know if any ever will be. Fisher needs a jumpshot, Scottie just doesn't have the athleticism needed, Dante ain't big enough, and Stokes (most probable to make NBA jump) needs to work on a better all around game but he is getting there. To be the team you seem to think they should be this year, a team needs NBA ready players. You seem sure that 100 plus coaches could come into this team and make them substantially better. Does Donovan suck because his team isn't ranked even though there team has higher level recruits than Nova. Does Calhoun suck because his team has taken a long time to come together with way more talent than Nova. Is Roy Williams a great coach because he gets freaking ridiculous recruits every single season (Nova's 09 class is an every year thing for him). Recruiting is 95% of the battle and in Jay We Trust.

Find joy in the team you ass. I question the coach/players/refs all the time when I watch my favorite franchises play. Mike Shanahan seems incompetent sometimes, George Karl has little control over anything, Jay Wright should probably run offensive sets sometimes and work on inbounds plays (which are frightening right now). Then I remember D. Snow and Ricky Wright and I thank Jay that Nova is as good as they are. 3 sweet 16's in 4 years is awesome...#1 recruiting class of 09 is FREAKING FANTASTIC. Get excited douche.

To novahoops85

Maybe a matchup thing?
A fatigue thing?
A message thing?
a tactical thing countering the opposition?
A confidence thing?

Any or all of the above AND I'm sure each game situation is different.
