Philly Daily News: Benn to Niagara

Dana Pennett O'Neill of the Philadelphia Daily News pens a short piece today also predicting that Villanova reserve guard Bilal Benn will transfer to Niagara.

Though transfer rumors about Benn have been flying about all year, the first published news of his planned transfer appeared earlier this weekend in the Hartford Courant.

Benn's transfer will free up a much-needed scholarship spot for the Wildcats, who were facing the prospect of bringing in zero freshman players next year.

Benn's transfer to Niagara seems to be a win-win situation: Benn gets a much bigger role on the court, and Villanova will have the chance to finally offer a scholarship to Tyreke Evans, the best high-school player in the country. Villanova remains on Evans's short list.

This may not be the last of the transfers for the Wildcats. Expect at least one more before the summer is over.

You can't go by Scout's listings... trust me when I say that Villanova is high on Tyreke's list -- either the leader or co-leader at this point.

On what are you basing your confidence, that we are the leader or co-leader? All signs point to North Carolina. He grew up a Carolina fan, his brothers who raised him are Tar Heel fans, the school has produced swarms of NBA players, and they're coached by Roy Williams. I tend to be an optomist, but even I'm struggling on this one.

Well keep in mind this is all in the realm of rumor and hearsay, but everything points to Nova, Louisville, or UNC. Considering Tyreke is one-and-done no matter where he goes, each school has its pros and cons. Nova's pros are that it's in his backyard, and that Jay Wright's guard-oriented system will provide the absolute showcase for Evans's NBA dress rehearsal. Yes, I also hear that Tyreke's brothers are pulling for UNC but it is Tyreke's decision. This is all just personal opinion, but I would say that Nova has a better than a 35-40% chance of landing Tyreke when all is said and done.
